Biography

Markus Bates has true global expertise and spent the vast majority of his 35 year career trading and brokering natural resources, metals/mining, power and chemicals. In addition to his brokering, advising and research role with Bankers Energy, he was the Executive Director for Energy Capital Research Group (ECRG), an independent research firm dedicated to providing in-depth knowledge and advisory services relating to the oil & gas, coal, power, industrials, and metals/mining sectors and the Head of Financials for Wood Mackenzie in New York, one of the premier global research and consulting firms in the natural resources/metals and mining spaces. 

He has 20 years of experience in leading international trading and operations in New York for a corporation equally-owned by VEBA (BP and Petro Canada; the 5th largest power producer, E.on and RWE; the 2nd largest coal miner, Ruhrkohle,and chemical producers, Evonik and Rain Carbon) and the largest steelmaker, ArcelorMittal. Markus has experience in M&A and structured finance transactions while in this role as well.

He holds a graduate degree in Accounting as well as a Series 65 License. He has been advising portfolio/fund managers and global banks about natural resources, metals/mining, power and chemicals for the last 23 years as a trader and broker.

He is fluent in German, Portuguese and Spanish.
